Alabama World War Memorial Building blueprint collection, 1936-[ongoing].

Former director Marie Bankhead Owen was the driving force behind the effort to construct a building in which the state archives could be housed. Through the actions of her and her brother, Senator John H. Bankhead (1872-1946), federal funds were allocated for the construction of the Ala. World War Memorial Building in the 1930s. The building was dedicated in 1941 and has since served as the repository for the Ala. Dept. of Archives and History. After a new wing was built in the 1970s, additional construction has been limited to maintaining and improving the building. This collection is composed of intermediates, blueprints, blueline prints, and diazo copies of plans for the War Memorial Building and the work that has been done on it from the 1930s to the present. It includes floor plans, steel details, roof details, stair details, electrical and mechanical plans, details of the marble work throughout the building, and renderings of stack areas, corridors, lobbies, offices and toilets. It also includes depictions of the wing added in the 1970s and renovation work done in the 1980s and 1990s.

25 cubic ft. (61 oversized folders).
